BlackForge Sports App — Privacy Policy
Draft · under legal reviewEffective: [date of app launch]
BlackForge Sports, LLC ("BlackForge Sports," "we," "us") makes the BlackForge Sports mobile app (the "App") for youth baseball players, parents and guardians, coaches and organizers. This policy explains what information the App collects, how we use it, and the choices families have. It applies to the App and related services. Our website, blackforgesports.com, is covered by its own Privacy Policy.
The short version
- Parents create and control profiles for children under 13. We collect a child's information only with verifiable parental consent.
- We do not sell personal information, do not show ads, and do not share children's information for advertising.
- Profiles are public or private. A private profile shows only a mini card until a follow request is approved.
- Arm-care guidance is advisory, not medical advice.
1. Who the App is for
- Adults (18+) may create parent/guardian, coach, organizer and adult-player accounts.
- Teens (13–17) may have a player account [confirm: created by a parent, or self-created with parent link?].
- Children under 13 may have a profile only if a parent or guardian creates it and gives consent (see section 7). Children cannot create their own account.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: name, email address, role (player, parent, coach, organizer), username, password or sign-in credential [Sign in with Apple / Google — confirm].
- Athlete profile: name, jersey number, position, division, team, birth year or age [confirm exactly what is collected], handedness, profile photo, and optional measurables such as exit velocity, 60-yard dash and height/weight. Each measurable is labeled Parent-entered or Coach-verified.
- Family details: the parent-child link, a parent's email for consent, and follow requests and approvals.
- Content: games, scores, lineups and plays a scorer enters, team and tournament setup, photos or video clips you upload [confirm], and [comments and reactions — confirm whether these ship at launch].
- Voice input: if you use "say the matchup" or voice scoring, your speech is [processed on device by Apple's speech recognition / sent to a third-party service — confirm] to turn it into text. [State whether audio is stored. Recommended: not stored, only the resulting text.]
- Messages to us: anything you send to support.
Information the App creates from games
- Batting, pitching and fielding statistics, milestones, personal bests, trophies, and the player card and card score. These are derived from scored games.
- Arm-care workload: pitch counts, rolling workload (for example 30-day load), daily caps and rest-until dates. This is health-adjacent information about a child, and we treat it as sensitive.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app data: device model, iOS version, app version, language, crash logs and diagnostics.
- Usage data: screens viewed and features used [confirm analytics provider, e.g. PostHog, and whether it is configured without advertising IDs and without collecting anything from children's profiles].
- Approximate location derived from IP address [confirm]. We do not collect precise location [confirm; if game venue features use location, describe them].
- Push notification token, if you enable notifications.
We do not use advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking [confirm]. The App does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt because it does not track.
3. How we use information
- Provide the App: scoring, live game views, replays, player cards, follow requests and family controls.
- Calculate statistics, milestones and arm-care guidance.
- Send service messages and, with your permission, notifications.
- Keep the App safe: prevent abuse, enforce our Terms, secure accounts, and moderate content [confirm process].
- Maintain and improve the App, fix bugs and understand what features are used.
- Comply with law.
We do not use children's information for advertising, profiling for marketing, or anything unrelated to operating the App.
4. Who can see what
- Public profile: anyone can find and view the athlete's card and stats. Parents choose this per athlete.
- Private profile: only a mini card is visible until the parent approves a follow request.
- Teams and games: members of a team, and the coach and organizers of that team or event, can see team rosters and scored games. Games and box scores may be visible to spectators of that game [confirm].
- Reaction counts and other social features follow each athlete's privacy settings.
- Parents can change these settings at any time in Settings → Privacy.
Because a child's profile can be made public by a parent, we recommend parents review what they share. We do not display a child's exact birth date, address or contact details [confirm].
5. How we share information
We share information only:
- With service providers that host and run the App under contract, such as cloud hosting, database, email delivery, push notifications, crash reporting and [analytics] [list actual providers, e.g. Vercel, Upstash, Apple, PostHog]. They may use the data only to provide services to us.
- As you direct, for example when a parent approves a follow request or shares a card.
- For legal and safety reasons, to comply with law or legal process, protect the rights, safety and property of children, users or us, or investigate misuse.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or sale, with notice to users and the same protections for children's data.
We do not sell personal information or "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Retention and deletion
- We keep account and game data while the account is active and as long as needed to provide the App, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations.
- Parents can delete an athlete profile, and account holders can delete their account, in the App [confirm path: Settings → Account → Delete]. We delete or de-identify the data within [30] days, except where the law requires us to keep it. Backups roll off within [90] days.
- Team-level game records may retain scores and totals without a deleted child's name or details [confirm approach].
- A parent may ask us to delete a child's information at any time by contacting us at [privacy email].
7. Children under 13 (COPPA)
We comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
- Parent-created profiles. A parent or guardian creates the profile. We send an email to the parent to confirm consent before the profile goes live. [Counsel: confirm this email flow qualifies as verifiable parental consent for our data practices. If children's data is only used for internal operations and not shared publicly by default, the "email plus" method may suffice; public profiles may need a stronger method such as a small card charge, government ID check or signed form.]
- What we collect from a child: only what is needed for the profile and game features listed in section 2. We do not condition participation on collecting more than is reasonably necessary.
- Parent rights. A parent can review the child's information, ask us to correct or delete it, refuse further collection, and manage privacy settings in the App or by contacting us.
- No direct child accounts. A child cannot sign in independently, message strangers, or make a profile public.
- Notice to parents. This policy is our direct notice. Before a profile goes live, the consent email links to it.
If we learn we collected a child's information without parental consent, we will delete it.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states, or the UK/EU), you may have the right to know, access, correct, delete and port your information, to opt out of sale, targeted advertising and profiling (we do none of these), and to appeal a denial. To exercise a right, use the in-app controls or contact us at [privacy email]. We will verify your identity, and for a child's information we will verify you are the parent or guardian. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California "Shine the Light" and Nevada opt-out: we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing and do not sell personal information.
Users outside the U.S.: [if the App is offered outside the U.S., add GDPR/UK legal bases, international transfer mechanism and representative details, or state that the App is intended for U.S. users].
9. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and monitoring, and limit who can access data. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information we will notify you as the law requires.
10. Third-party content and links
The App may show media or links from third parties [confirm — the broadcast replay feature: state source and license]. Their practices are governed by their own policies.
11. Changes
We will post updates here and in the App with a new effective date. For material changes affecting children's information, we will notify parents directly and, where required, seek renewed consent.
